Enter this post, if you dare…

Hello!

Oh, you dared. I guess it wasn’t all that scary, really. Next time I’ll be a lot more specific about the horrors within. The header image is an awesome bit of fan-art as well as a banner for a Halloween-themed community competition, Rust Nightmare Fuel, that was announced on the Facepunch forums. Let’s appreciate how cool it looks for a just a minute before getting into the competition details.

kfhammond is asking for spooooooky skins to be uploaded to the Rust Workshop by Oct 22nd, and most of the activity has settled on this post on the Steam forums. There you can view the creations, add your own, or remind people they are dealing with forces they can’t possibly understand while you squirt holy water/Mountain Dew over everything. FYI: this is a community run event, so all we have to do with it is this post. Please avoid sending bribes or threats.

I love how Halloween has become the official holiday for games. I choose to believe it’s a celebration of character creation tools.

Medieval Raid Cam

The always excellent Shadowfrax has a new Raid Cam video. As is his way, he has a twist on the video, with the action taking place in castle and the defender–King Teobald–holding off against his now not-so-loyal subjects, who have risen up against his high taxation. The kicker is there’s no modern weapons used in this fight. Bows, hatchets, and melee weapons only, as well as harsh language. It’s all very silly, and everyone treats thusly: King Teobald spend a lot of time shouting about delicious wines, and stops fighting to paint a picture in blood.

His introduction is great, setting the scene of a king “who has built a rather sexy looking castle in amongst this wonderful collection of medieval electricity pylons”.

That knight pulling the arrow from his chest and then shooting it back was properly hardcore. Frax also made this short movie. It’s worth going in with the minimum of knowledge, so I’m not saying anything else.

Good job, Frax.

Slavery, The Making of Rust

I wasn’t aware that slavery was such an issue in Rust until Rusty Pirate made this pretty amazing short film highlighting the problem. But now I do know, I realise that I could have made my life in Rust so much better if only I’d taken some slaves. I hope anyone who watches this and releases their slaves does so on a server I’m on, because that just means there’s more for me.

How could I have been so wrong? More, please. I need to know what I’ve been missing out on.

Introneering

This is a very specific idea. MDemon on the Facepunch forums thinks that Rust requires an intro video, and decided to mock one up. This is how he thinks Rust should open.

I think the appearance of the individual elements would work better fading in, unless he’s making a joke about the view distance. In which case I’d point out we’re in alpha.

Compound Bow Concept

It’s been a while since we had a piece of community concept art, so here’s ScrapyJack over on Reddit showing off his idea for a new bow.

I love the details on the second image: knuckle dusters for a grip? kinda genius.

… and Finally

Don’t be Tower Guy.

God job, Pitch Dank. Could perhaps be a tad shorter, but I love the voices.

Get In Touch

Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or share a game-mode your server hosts.

There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.

I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
