Saturday morning Rust.
The header is a still taken from MadnessWorld’s Rust cartoon. It’s a typical tale of crafting, Russians, and a messed-up raid. It’s also very short, so unless you have an irrational hatred of consumable media, you should totally watch it.
I love how striking the art is at the top of the page. It makes a nice change from all the sunsets.
Horse-headed voice wrangler Shadowfrax continues to surprise me. He uses Rust as a platform for some amazing videos. He never just records things when he could instead be Let’s Playing as Darth Vader; he’s made gorgeous little short stories about loss; even his raid cams tend to be themed.
And now? His past couple of Rust vids have been a celebration of the game’s gorgeous procedural generation, full of beautifully shot landscapes and edited with the gentle touch of a cobra feeding its young (think about it). And even then, he still manages to be diverse.
His ‘Procedural Showcase’ is what you’d see if you took the time to appreciate the world of Rust. We know that can be tough when your flesh is sustenance for other players, so you can watch Frax’s video and take it in.
His other video, ‘Relaxing with Rust’, is shot and edited in the same fashion, but it manages to be completely different at the same time. Just watch.
Bus Stop Base
I really liked this base that popped up on the reddits. It’s a snug little hovel built up and over the bus stops you’ll find on the sides of our roads. Swembizzle managed to fit four large chests, one small chest, two furnaces, and a sleeping bag in here.
I love seeing the things people build when they use the landscape’s features. I’d love to see more buildings on servers that people can overhaul.
This is neat: it’s an Android app that you can use to alert you to your base’s decay status. Set the timer and you’ll never again be unaware of the march of time across the Rust servers.
Other Game Art
Here’s a couple of bits of art from the in-game painting tools. They interested me because a) they’re not penises, and b) they’re from other games. There’s probably a lawyer out there who could argue that now we have these works of art in the Rust universe that technically the games now exist within the Rust universe, so we should be taking all the profits. I mean, he wouldn’t win that case or probably even get it in front of a judge, but I’m sure I could at least pay someone to say it.
Anyway, KrisHastings painted Samus (and if you click the link you can see a gif of it coming together).
And Seendreew has been playing with an artist and a Skyrim fan.
Not a dong to be seen.
… and Finally
Despite my loudly screamed objections about the creation of guns in the real world, pashen28 announced on Reddit that he’s planning on 3D printing a Rust AK47.
Get In Touch
Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server.
There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.
I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
