A soft Salvaged Hammer, the fall of XP, a component shop opens up, and more.

Welcome

Some months my job is incredibly easy. Last week’s header was a given, I already have a plan for next week’s, and this week’s trotted into place with all the ease of a horse fleeing certain death through a rock. This is by Nokse Mojo, who dropped it onto Art Station and shared it to reddit. Now I get to put it here and be happy. Really outstanding work, Nokse. So good that I’ll once again have to disclaim that THIS IS FAN ART AND NOT SOMETHING WE’RE PUTTING IN THE GAME AT THIS PARTICULAR MOMENT. You’ll know when we do, because Shadowfrax will almost certainly appear on the news following an ‘incident’.

Salvaged Hammer

Of all the times I’ve seen a Rust item brought into the third and lumpiest dimension, I think I like beebalalou’s the most. Why? Because the Salvaged Hammer has a utilitarian look. It doesn’t look like a gun, so there’s no chance it could be mistaken by the police. And–bonus!–her hammer is actually made of “duct tape, vinyl, pill and cat treat bottles, foam and a plunger handle”. That doesn’t sound like it could cave in the skull of an enemy. Phew! Here’s her work, and the original concept to compare.

I bet it makes a squeak when you hit things with it.

Semi-Auto Sim

I don’t know how to categorise this, so instead I’ll leave it to dacasman to explain: “Semi auto rifle from Rust made in Algodoo 2D physics simulation.” That clear? It’s made in this.

Still not sure, but I liked it.

Art

It’s always a great thrill to discover a new artist. Dat Boi’s Steam profile has a couple of nice bits of character art on it. Here:

That second poster would look so much better with just the characters.

The Snaff N’ Sir Component Emporium

Ser Winter has taken to Rust’s new component system with a kind of merchant’s zeal. His current series isn’t about the new system itself, but about him setting up a store on a server and selling components to the public on there. They built up and around a bus stop, and started to welcome visitors to browse their wares. And then shooting happened.

I like the idea of only selling components. That way you’re unlikely to sell a weapon that’ll immediately be used to kill you.

And Finally…

The fall of XP.

That Helk at the end just about killed me.

Get In Touch

Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.

There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.

I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
