Rust In Minecraft, Stranger Things in Rust, Rust in Go… these things will all make sense if you read the blog, obviously.

Welcome

In the grand tradition of Rust, I didn’t have anything special planned for update 100. But then Maxim Klyuch did his thing and it looks special enough that you might think I made it happen. Let me assure you all that we’re not even close to having a plan at Facepunch towers.

Max’s work has dotted the site a few times, because he makes amazing replicas of all sorts of Rust items. They’re so good that I was briefly convinced a photograph of his work was a screenshot of the game. Here’s everything he’s done so far, which now includes the crossbow. And, yes, it does fire. And how do you test a replica of an in-game weapon? You fire it a replica of an in-game piece of armour, obviously.

If there’s a word that expresses equal amounts of joy and terror I need to find it. Joy: everything he makes is incredible. Terror: seeing how close he was to the mask when the arrow was bouncing off it.

Stay safe, Max.

Rust In Minecraft

Word on the grapevine tells me that the plucky upstart known as Minecraft could use some help getting out there, and I’m only too happy to help. Well, I’m not, but Gobrosse on reddit is. He used Rust’s Dome as inspiration for a build in Minecraft, immediately and permanently elevating the blocky builder by association. Take a look.

There. Now Minecraft will sell loads more.

Rust Go Trailer

If I had a font that was neon, and automatically translated the words into every language that ever existed, I’d use it here. I really need tro drive home that this is a fan-made trailer and has nothing to do with us. I’m saying that because this trailer for Rust Go by MBF Fun House looks good enough to be real. It’s not. It’s great, and dear Jebus do we all want to play it, but we can’t. Sorry.

That’s not just a cool trailer, but a really cool basis for a game. One that doesn’t exist.

Community Concepts

Just a couple of nice community art pieces I found floating around the internet. On the left is |HM| WillZBrush4Food’s rather complex redo of the archery mechanic, taking into account arm protectors and a number of new arrows to make life easier for archers everywhere. On the right is Cookeek idea of what a desert survivor looks like in Rust.

Not shown: whatever the heck this is.

Rust Zombies

We took zombies out of Rust, so I don’t know why Rust Zombies wants to put them back in. Are you arguing with our game design skills, m8? Ah, ok. So this isn’t just a mod that sticks the undead back on the servers like loot pinatas, but instead turns the players into zombies as the server progresses.

When the game begins, one or more players will be randomly selected to play as Zombies. The remaining players will be Survivors.

Survivors must aim to survive the round by killing Zombies with their pistol or by using other weapons that spawn in crates around the map. A helicopter will come to rescue the remaining Survivors at a defined ‘Extraction Point’ in the last few minutes of the game. If only one survivor remains, they’ll receive a ‘Super Weapon’ to help fight the Zombie hoard.

Zombies must try to infect other Survivors by hitting them with their Bone Club or by throwing a Bone Knife at them. If a Survivor is infected, they become a Zombie and must infect the remaining Survivors.

Bonus for us: we don’t need to fix the zombie AI. Now you want to see that in action, yeah? Well here you go.

The mode is currently running on a couple of servers here, so space might be a little bit tight after this update.

Rusty Banter Podcast

Notorious people with voices Shadowfrax and LOLOUTftw have started a Rust-based podcast. Well, sort of. Try as I might, I can only find the thing on Youtube, so I’m going to have to accuse them of being braggards. J’accuse!

Aside from the disgusting two-facedry, the chat-track is as fun as you’d expect from this pair. I’m very glad they’re partnering up. Ep 2 is below.

Get thee to podcast sites.

… And Finally

A Stranger Things scene reshot in Rust.

Thanks for that, dearsomeone.

Get In Touch

Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.

There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.

I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
