Barrel cannons, swooshy raid-cams, community redesigned UI, exploding tuna can frisbees, and more.
I’m still sorting through a backlog of cool stuff you all made when I took a week off. The top image is from a short while back, made by cookiesS_ to celebrate the recent XP update that is universally adored and no-one has any problems with in the slightest. The original image is here, and there’s many, many variations in the comments. I preferred the clean version for the site, but there’s a few different takes on it here.
Cinematic Raid Cam
Swemba is probably the best at filming, framing, and editing a raid-cam to make it look epic, and Phaedo82 really knows how to use his commentary to frame the action and inform the viewer. So let’s see what happens when they get together. Word of warning, though – it ain’t short:
When Kaymind gets involved, you know you’re in trouble.
Community UI Concept
It turns out McJay, who was responsible for this monstrosity in last week’s update, also has a vision for Rust. Attempting to solve a couple of issues they have with weapon stacking, they’ve ended up redesigning the whole inventory and crafting UI. Take a look.
You might note that the reddit thread the concept is posted in is from Garry asking for feedback. We’ll be trying to get some direct feedback on the game–what players would like us to look at–and rather than having to parse it from lots of different places we’re currently considering a monthly reddit thread. It doesn’t even need to be about XP/BPs. Let us know.
Rust PD – The Finale
Rust has always seemed like an engine for Let’s Plays, but just playing the game has never satisfied PitchDank, who’ve taken the game and turned it into news show, a series of comedy sketches, and a long-running police nonsense simulator called Rust PD. Below is the tenth episode of that, which is also the finale, and probably has more cameos from Youtubers than any other Rust video.
That took a lot of writing and editing. And, bonus, one of the team is clearly ‘Stone Cold’ Steve Austin. I’m surprised he has the time.
He’s onto something.
Rocks For Sale
At some point in Youtube’s history, animating a snippet of a Let’s Play became a thing. This is a short take from one of VanossGaming’s videos, which has 5 million+ views for some reason.
The whole thing is here.
Dam_we’s ideas for lower tier explosives thread on reddit is properly great. I’d happily use these.
Who knew the human skeleton was so useful in weaponry? Also, I’m annoyed I missed this armoured umbrella a few months ago.
… And Finally
PitchDank figured out what lies Beyond Max Level.
It looks a lot like admin powers, but with bloom… I think I want that added to devmode.
Get In Touch
Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.
There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.
I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
