Fan-art for fans by fans, how to build the best base, being questioned to death, and more.
I’m back in PitchDank’s Rust Zone for the header image. I can’t think of anything cooler than a community member getting fan art, aside from a community member receiving fan art for their character based update show. The header–by François Mayer–perfectly captures Brad from the Rust Zone’s terrified naivety. There’s a few of my favourites below (if/when Imgur is working there’s even more here): some are really good; others are just mean.
And here’s the video they went into. When Brad sent me these, he wisely chose to leave out the wang.
I imagine if you’re not a fan of the Rust Zone then this section meant nothing to you, but how could you not be a fan?
That looks like a lazy pun for a heading until you see the final bit of art, then you’ll have to agree that it’s great. Here’s few random arty bits I discovered this week: on the left is how MMO Weekly imagined Rust would look as an Atari game, and on the right is a wallpaper I discovered here.
And then there’s this Immortan Joe Artwork by [WARBOY] Hayden.
Not only did he film himself painting it, but he did it while fighting off attackers in the Thunderdome. He dies for his art.
I can’t even draw noses.
I like these thing just because it couldn’t be further away from Rust. Seeing what can be done is fascinating. And the proof is in the playing, which PitchDank did.
Here’s an interesting arena build on That German Guys’ channel: a deathmatch arena built in swamp. There’s a looooong look at the build to begin with, but I think the more interesting bit is towards the end where people are fighting in the wet, broken buildings.
A side note: people still listen to that music?
You take your life into your hands whenever you enter another player’s house, and though most people will just kill you and eat your liver, Holyman TV will at least give you a chance.
It wasn’t much of a chance, really, but it’s probably better than outright murder.
Build The Best Base
Rust’s bassiest base builder has struck out on his own channel. KCmo is best known for crafting bases that confound raiders, but his new channel will include a mix of that, general Rust clips, and, ugh, other games. I’ll link to his new site and embed a new video, but I won’t like it.
Oh alright, I liked it a little.
… And Finally
ShadowFrax makes a good case for Rock skins.

Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.
There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.
I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
