Hell on Rust.
I love the camera trickery of the top image. I was tempted to crop it more, to hide the obvious use of the campfires, but it also took away some of the fire, and making Rust look like a burning hellscape of doom is the purpose of the shot.
Planet Rust – Episode 2
My favourite new series of Rust Let’s Plays, where LOLOUTftw–an Attenborough-esque narrator–follows a solo player as he tries to survive in Rust. He also has an uncanny ability to make himself look awesome. Ahem. That’s not a problem. Not when the action is so satisfying: there’s a moment in the first airfield raid that people will definitely try at least once in Rust.
The channel now has its own Rust server.
Powerplant Call-Out Guide
This is a neat idea that I, in my argumentative way, took to mean something else: it’s redditor iEliteGamer’s Powerplant Callout Map. I thought he was using the image to challenge us on something we lied about. It was scary to go through every blogpost, every tweet, and every update to see where we’d been caught. Because, frankly, we lie all the time. I’m doing so right now, handsome. But it’s actually a labelled diagram of the Powerplant dungeon, with areas highlighted for players to be able to confirm who is where when they’re there. No more accidentally shooting then looting your best friend!
Now there is a slight issue in that the current Powerplant layout will change. Vince is fiddling with things, so this map will probably be obsolete by the next wipe cycle, but for now you can use it to ‘call-out’ a position. See? That’s what it means. iEliteGamer has suggested they might continue in this endeavour. Please do, and I’ll happily post them when they’re done.
Rust Factions City Tour
Here’s a look at the cities of Rust Factions, taken before the wipe. You may or may not know about Rust Factions, so I’ll give you a primer: it’s a server for factions to claim land, expand territory, and start conflicts. It might sound like a traditional Rust server, but it’s all very structured, with a map with land claims laid out before each Era (wipe) kicks off. Raids aren’t launched without warning; war is declared. You need permission to build, and when you do there might be rules as to the look and position of your building.
And when lots and lots of people follow those rules, cities will rise…
That dramatic music was probably a bit much, but thanks for making it, Tyrgrim. You can see how player cities can become landmarks, which is something we’re big fans of.
The modest iRifted posted a thread on reddit with the title I made a ship, and pointed out it was contract work for Rusty Pirates. What was left unsaid was, “I’ve found the treasure of One-Eyed Willy…”
… And Finally
That skull shot was just to stop the Moomin image taking up too much room, but it’s rather damning of Moomin fans.
Get In Touch
Think you’re working on something awesome? Tell me all about it. Now’s the time to share your base designs, or get into the growing Raid Cam business, or show off a game-mode from your server, or if your server has an interesting theme.
There’s a dedicated forum post, or you can fish for upvotes in the Subreddit. I also shuffle around the the Steam Community, so feel free to show me to things from there. You can follow and respond to Rust on Twitter, and I’m on there as well.
I can’t respond to everything, but I read every comment and take it all in.
